One unfinished email task became a $51,600 product lesson
We did not begin FounderFlow with a generic idea about making inboxes cleaner.
It came from a painful real business experience.
I opened an important Department of Developmental Services email. I completed one part of the required QIP survey. Then I believed the task was finished.
It was not. Another required portion remained open. The deadline passed before I understood what was still incomplete.
The estimated impact was approximately 5% of revenue. That was around $4,300 every month. Over 12 months, it represented approximately $51,600.
The experience changed how we thought about the problem. The issue was not simply that an email had been ignored. The email had been opened. Part of the task had been completed. The real problem was that the responsibility looked finished when it was not.
A normal inbox could show the sender, the subject, the date, whether the email was opened, and which folder contained it. But it did not clearly show that an important action remained open, a deadline was approaching, compliance was involved, revenue could be affected, and attention was still required.
That gap became central to FounderFlow.

Ouch, that's an expensive lesson, Stacy. Glad it turned into a solution other founders can benefit from.
Olga, thank you for that. It stayed an expensive lesson until I started building around it. Curious whether you have had a similar moment on any of your three products, one message you almost let slide that turned out to matter more than it looked.
